Overview
African tin production is very low, with production coming from small operators. Existing large mines include the mothballed Kamativi Tin mine in Zimbabwe – Africa’s largest. The Kamativi mine may reopen in the near future, according to the ZMDC, who are seeking interested investors. South Africa’s two main tin producers (owned by Metorex) Rooiberg Tin and Zaaiplaats Tin have remained closed for some time and are undergoing rehabilitation. Namibia was a major producer from it’s Uis mine.
